A guest release from that rarity on m211, someone from a continent outside Europe. This time Darkhalo steps in to show us what an interesting reading the Americans are taking on the whole d+b thing, encompassing Californian breakbeat, acid b-lines, and even some Transeau shaken up in there - just the right side of catchy, we fear, and fully compatible with the breaks and beats that m211 insists on releasing in such a hipflask lackadaisical fashion..

Wowee, a first release for Distance on the breakbeat-ish Mono211, and this time it's a real interesting blend between his conventional unconventionality and a new sub-bass and sharp breaks style. Original, I warrant, and pretty clever with it. And the name is.. well, it makes sense to you, doesn't it?

More rewording and reordering as Substance takes elements from two previous releases (Tek's mp3 "Benedict" and Prob+Ebb's "Stylez") and merges and melds to come up with this mellifluous hybrid. It's fun to play with sounds, isn't it? Watch out for a simultaneous/near-simultaneous Malik remix of "Stylez" on Theralite (http://pigforce.warande.net/theralite), incidentally.. mmm, synchronicity can be so constructive, hm?

If you listen closely, it just makes so much _sense_. castlemortonravekid Subi, fresh from sorting us the new version of da m211 screensaver, blasts us another of his telegrams from A500 space, and it's so.. him. Where else could you get that authentic 1991 flava and the mechtinnytech snarerush that signifies the start of another blastin' subi tune? nowhere else, that's where. when i compared m211's fascination with subi to john peel's fascination with the fall, subi got a bit upset... but do...

words really don't do this one much justice. it's borderline insane, it's somewhere between the drill, the bass, the ambient, and the headfunk.. it's got those trademark weird-as-hell arpeggios in there, and it's just brilliance. then again, i'm sure we're biased? nonetheless, ridiculously good. hopefully if you're reading this you have it already. if not, go get it, for gawd's sake. heh, over and out.. oh, it's neglected because we didn't release it for a year or more, btw. more fool us :)

This one has been waiting in the wings for a very long time - apologies to Prob and Ebb for delaying it. But finally a release for the superlative "Stylez EP" by one of mono211's foremost Finns and his studio partner, Ebb. There's actually very little that can be said about this apart from the fact that damn, it's a classy hiphopjam, and the bonustrack is original and smartstyled too. Oh, please note that real scratching and real sativa extract was used in the making of this track,...

Thank you for the music, said Abba. We say similar to Bay Tremore for this eminently bouncy track that assaults your eardrums at somewhere between hiphop, d+b, bigbeat, and heaven only knows what else. Sorta like Fatboy Slim if he came from Finland and listened to more Hardfloor than surf tunes. Now that www.mono211.com is up and everything is hunky dory, we're getting back on track again - musical whizkids, eh, Tzant? :)

first release of 1999, and first release in almost a month from us, too. we've been caught up in the webpage being down and the xmas festivities and the kicking and the biting. still, everything back to 'normal' now, with some fine new ramone ascii and this wicked new linus ep. it's been a long time, but it's been worth the wait.. the blunted boy wonder comes up with some truly organic beats... the clock on the wall silently ticks.. and we hit the repeat button. again. chill out.

Back again on the label with the mono and the 2 and the 1 and the 1, it's the finnish groove-god hymn-self with some real chilled jazzy action. why _do_ we like the jazz-chill-groove so much? it's definitely partly to do with the fact we release over the Net, and so people listen at home on their computers.. beats that sound kickass in clubs sometimes sound boring at home, and vice versa, which we think is a mistake a lot of sceners make. but with our forthcoming videogame and vinyl action...

Long-awaited and finally here+now, one of Vim's best tracks from earlier this year gets a full release. one of the man himself's favourite tracks, it seems almost too elegant to be digital, don't you think? playing with the idiom, he twists it round our finger and spits out the drums again, all filtered, spinning round and round.. hmm, sometimes we feel guilty we don't make people pay for this kinda thing ;)

Almost mechanoid, this is somewhere between Kraftwerk and Mu-Ziq, and has those gorgeously kiddie melodies so beloved of Warp-ish characters all the way from Sir Aphex to the recently recognised Plone. Back into the fold then, and good to go. Wheeeee.

It's tricky. In some danger of becoming the Penn and Teller of the underground scene - now you see him, now you don't? With the undercurrents of the macabre but the straightahead gobsmacking in there too, it's a valid comparison, but, let's face it, Bay Tremore just ain't that.. sick. Mmm. For Linus' first release as a member of mono211, he breaks out the originality potion for a tribute to most excellent film director and composer, John Carpenter. Famous in the 70s for pictures such as "Escape From New York", "The Thing", and "Assault on Precinct 13", many people think Carpenter was one of the fathers of modern electronic music, with his sparse electronic scores for his movies. And Linus has crafted a rather crafty tribute to the man. Nope,...

Well, perhaps reinterpretations using the same samples would be closer to the truth. :) Whatever, ignore ice.climber at...

Blimey. Dreamfish has muscled up his style and is making some of the meatiest, most harmful beats to be spat outta a computer for a damn long time - and here's some more evidence. Another mix of the fearsome "Retro DNA", and a whole new set of twisted riddims. Let's face it, it's no longer just a little aural harassment - it's getting personal. Cover your ears, repair to the concrete bunkers, and await instructions. Quick.

Jazz and Fndr guest it up with this rather lovely drum+bass track, perfect for chilling out or rocking the funky beat, depending on how loud you play it. Mono recommends you play it very loud indeed. :) Four channels can still kick some sizable ass, even with supa-complex jungle riddims, and here's some further proof. Enjoy.

The first Mono release by Zyad, our newest member, and it's pretty easy to see how he fits in. Very nicely, as it happens. :) So, we got more downbeat bigbeat pleasures for your cerebellum - just sit up and say thankyou. Although there's definitely some scary, scary static-filled undertones to both these tracks. Be slightly afraid, be very slightly afraid. :)

Ooch. Some serious roughness from the normally gentle and caring Substance. ;) Well, ok, he's hardly been a saint, but this is downright prosecutable. Jazz bass, twinkling hi-hats, and a buzz, buzz, buzz buzz in your eardrum bass from somewhere da other side of Pluto. The planet, not the cartoon character. Stand back before igniting.

I think the word is 'magisterial'. Or thereabouts. Fat beats, hype scratches, dark synth licks, and an excuse to blow your eardrums. Which it's never a bad idea to turn down. Or, as the Gravediggas so eloquently put it - "bang your muthaf***ing head'. ;) heh. ;) In any case, sometimes no words correctly describe a tune, and this one speaks for itself. Enough. [please note, MOD4WIN mangles the playing of this track somewhat - try to replay it in MikIt or FastTracker.. or something that...

Vim! is currently wandering about in the garden painting flowers. Well, at least, he's gone to uni to do something arty. But that's what we suspect he's doing. In the meantime, here's a dangerously dangerous dangerous thing showing what he's like when he's mad. Vim! smash. You fear Vim! :)

The ever blunted Ramone returns with this absolutely excellent hiphop track, dope fly freshness permeating every byte. ;) Of course, Mono would like to take this opportunity to remind people that graffiti is officially a 'bad thing' and is just mindless vandalism, not cool urban artwork. And don't you forget it. ;)

Mortimer Tee returns to play with himself - and in public, too. ;) Yup, this excellent remix EP sees him revisiting and remixing a couple of his classy tunes from a while back. And there's going to be more original Mortimer tracks coming up soon. In the meantime, enjoy..

Our Finnish jazz-freak returns with an absolutely wicked track, complete with flute played by himself, and triphop atmospherics blending into some freestyle d+b... as jazzed-down and tripped-up as it gets. Don't stop (don't stop.. don't stop.. don't stop..) [Oh, this was meant to be a 4-channel MOD, but it doesn't play correctly on the Amiga ('cos some of the channels get too high, octave-wise), so it's being released as an XM instead. Hope nobody minds, it sounds identical.]

Take the rough with da rougher, courtesy of da Splif Productions guide to sonic trickery. Or, as it says in the song-text - "Prodigy - we ****ed em" ;) Ok, so this is hardly comforting home listening for first thing on a Monday morning, but it's certainly dangerously funky. More to come from the dangerous Danish duo, take heed and take check.

A guest release from Soup/Illogik this time round, and it's some scarily cool d+b action, perhaps a little less twisted than a lot of Mono tracks - but it's good for us to be suave every now and then. The name's Mono - you know the rest. ;)

Sadly, it's just about time to say goodbye to TheFoxII, as he quits tracking in favour of MIDI stuff and DJ-ing.. but it's nice to go out on a funky note, and this one's typically kicking - disco cut-ups rule. In fact, this one reminds us of somewhere between The Bucketheads and The Goodmen (anyone remember them?) :) In any case, da track fits pretty well into the wide gospel that Mono preach - as long as it's eklektik and funky, it can make it. :) Aaaaamen. A new Monotonik track, and this time a fine release from Kuu. Actually, this one reminds us very much of the classic Harthouse/Eye-Q style of techno, which can only be a good thing. There's enough percussion in here to stun a horse. In case people are still wondering how Mono artists manage to get so much into 4 channels, there's an utility called MOD2SMP which allows the composer to compose a whole drum-pattern in 4 channels, and then output it as a sample which can be used in just 1 channel....

A new EP from the always interesting Subi, and another example of his dense, breakbeat-led style. :) Curiously oldskool but somehow new at the same time - straange. You may, if you wish, try to decode the titles of the tracks too, but we have enough trouble even when he explains them to us. Oh, and doesn't the first track sound curiously like the tune by Static from the Rebels demo "Total Triple Trouble"? And that was about 1991. ;)

Vim! almost went away a couple of months back, but thankfully he didn't quite finish with the scene as he said, and he's still hanging around, to increasing acclaim. Here's one of his latest tracks, exclusive to Mono, and it's another cracker - tight Squarepusher-style percussive shenanigans with an original edge. Ken Dodd, for those not in the know, is a very strange English comedian with protruding teeth, a 'tickling stick', and a very strange.. attitude. So the title fits, then? :)

The most excellent Substance comes back at us with this track, apparently inspired by the experimentalism of Radiohead's new album. Only more so. It's better not to over-elaborate, perhaps, but let's just say that this one is quite a long way.. out there.

Time for the third Monotonik release, and it's another damn original track, this time by Dharma. In any case, it's a great new release, it's "piercing your eardrums at 300m/s", and there's a danger of hospitalisation from the whiplash. So wear your hard hats and enjoy the chaos. :)

We be back, and it's a long-awaited guest release from linus/phd. One of mono's favourite artists, linus has gone ahead and donated us a couple of wicked new tracks. We're also re-releasing one of his very best releases on phase distortion ("stoopid interlude"). The reason we're doing this is firstly because we adore the tune, and secondly because we think there's a lot of people who listen to mono who haven't got round to listening to phd yet - so we're giving it a different (wider?)...

Kicking it into da stratosphere, brother Ram is on da hype tip with this absolutely wicked jungle track. The sub-bass, the timestretch vocals, the hiphop stylings, it's typical Ramone, and all the better for that. Some weird ethnic stuff somewhere far in the background, too. Listen carefully, because all will be revealed :)

Mmm. Another truly original release from Whiskas, and this one takes ethnic elements and fuses them with breakbeat to make something rather new and groovy. As for the name, who can say what intoxicants were involved in the process of calling this tune "Magic Milktunnel"? We certainly can't say. :) But watch out for more unconventionality along these lines, soon. Same channel, same time. Out. :)

Ridiculously hot day here at Mono HQ, and a suitably humid and oppressive release to suit it. Dharma comes on strong with a 'Sunstroke Mix' of this excellent downbeat track, complete with weird jazzy inflexions. Perhaps you can see why he's joined up with Mono now? :) We're scared of him, at least. ;P

The return of the Mack, wouldn't you know it, and it's with a brand-new composed jungle track. Mortimer reckons b-boy science is the way to go, but the drum n' bass still puts us in our place, huh? Please note that this is numero duo in the 'mono-back-on-track' series. And watch out for more Mortimer Twang stuff on Mono soon. If you would.

Mommy, they're scaring meeee. The Splif Productions duo hit us with another pair of tunes, if only to show us just how much paranoid toking they've been doing. Liberally smothered in Massive Attack-styled slow-as-hell-mo atmosphere, it's time to duck behind the sofa and wait for the things to start coming through the walls atya. Respect. The title of the EP, in case you ask, is because this stuff is just like being slowly encased in amber. Struggling all the time.

Another eagerly awaited release from one of the most eagerly listened to artists on Mono - and phew, another scorcher. Mortimer remixes Twilight's excellent "Crystal Rain" and takes it way above the temporal, onto another plane even. Chant those mantras, see the chords soar and the bass boom. :)
